Punjab Flood Emergency 2025: Over 32,000 Evacuated as Rivers Overflow

Punjab Flood Emergency 2025 has displaced thousands after heavy rains and dam releases in India caused exceptionally high floods in Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers. Punjab is currently facing a rapid flood crisis with heavy rains and water discharges on Indian rivers as Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rose to extraordinary flood levels. More than 32,500 have been evacuated and the army was deployed to work alongside civil authorities in eight districts.

Regiments raised: Lahore, Sialkot, Kasur, Narowal, Okara and Faisalabad.

Evacuations: 32,589 persons have been saved until now (Rescue 1122)

Cause of Flooding / punjab flood emergency 2025

India released all the gates in major dams including, Thein and Madhopur dams of the Ravi River following heavy rains in occupied Kashmir. The Pakistan Flood Forecasting Division revealed that the water levels of Punjab Rivers increased to alarming levels where the increased flow of water through Chenab River reached a level of 1 million cusecs at Khanki Headworks.

Eight districts in the Punjab government called in the army to help. Government has established relief camps whereas Rescue 1122 with over 436 boats is doing a round the clock job. The Edhi Foundation has arranged medical camps as well in the flood affected areas most of all in Kasur.

 

Impact on tilting of the Kartarpur Corridor Affected

Floodwaters have breached Kartarpur where there is a holy place of the Sikhs, the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. About 200-300 people who got trapped in the area have already been evacuated through army and local authorities, Radio Pakistan reports.

An expert on climate, Masood Lohar said this is an unusual situation where both Pakistan and India are experiencing extreme rainfall. All these could destroy infrastructure, agriculture, and an already weak Indus Delta warned by the floods.
